An easy drive from Pisa and its airport brings you to Montefegatesi, a maze of narrow streets perched on a dramatic rocky promontory in the mountains above Lucca and Bagni di Lucca.
Casa Omega lies at the western edge of this friendly village which is served by an excellent shop and two cafes. Ricardo cooks the best pizzas in Tuscany!! The pretty square is the centre of the village.
Montefegatesi is in the mountains of the Apuane range and for the energetic there is fabulous walking in the hills above the dramatic Orrida di Botri and on the Prato Fiorita which is covered in alpine flowers in the Spring and Summer. There is a chance that you could see eagles, pine martens and wild boar.
For culture vultures the cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence with their beautiful buildings, colourful history, priceless art and unique atmosphere are easily accessible by car and train.
The stunning National Park of Cinque Terre, eighteen kilometers of sheer rocky coastline, terraced hills and vineyards sloping steeply down to the sea with its five little villages built into the rocks between the beach and the hills is also accessible. You can hike, swim, drink red wine, and watch blazing Mediterranean sunsets away from the tourist throngs. Centuries old footpaths and mule tracks wind about 500 to 1,000 feet above the sea, leading through olive groves and vineyards, orchards and chestnut woods.
