The nearby town of Chalais, dominated by the castle of Talleyrand Perigord, is known for its mild climate and the dynamism of its fairs and Monday markets. The Canton of Chalais is located on the terroir "Bon Bois" of the world famous Cognac appellation.
A few kilometers away, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, one of the "most beautiful villages in France" is built as an amphitheatre around a loop of the Dronne, one of its most remarkable buildings is a monolithic church carved from inside the rock face, where the main alter stands 20 m below the top of the vault.
