Location Details
Sao Bras de Alportel
Villa Catarina is located in Sao Romao just a five minute drive from São Brás de Alportel which itself is to the north of Faro, in the Barrocal region of the Algarve.
This is a bustling town and worth exploring. There are museums, galleries and beautiful old churches and chapels and of course many small cafes with sweet pastries, cakes and drinks.
You can drive into the hills above São Brás de Alportel where there are tiny hamlets of houses nestled into the hillside amongst the cork and almond trees. The sheep and goats are still herded down the main roads by sheperds so beware! This is the Algarve untouched by tourism it's also an area where many of the original Algarve handicrafts still survive - wrought iron work, hand made wooden toys, basket weaving.
The Fonte Férrea picnic area is also to the north of São Brás .The scenery is beautiful and picturesque and the cool spring water pools are just perfect for cooling off under the Algarve sun!
For leisure activities you can check out these;
* Golf: 'Vila Sol', 'Quinta do Lago', 'Vale do Lobo' and 'San Lourenzo' are the closest courses.
* Almancil Karting: A leisure and competition karting complex. The circuit is a replica of the Jacarepagua Formula 1 circuit in Brazil.
* Aqua Show Park, Quarteira (Seminho): The biggest water and amusement park in Portugal. Open from 1st June to 15th September 10.00am to 6.00pm.
* Zoomarine at Guia (10km from Albufeira): It's open all year round

Additional Information
What makes The Algarve so special?
Perhaps it's the golden sand and crashing breakers of the finest beaches in Europe or the 3000 annual hours of sunshine - a gift to alfresco dining and numerous outdoor sporting activities.
Quite simply The Algarve offers the highest quality and finest facilities in some of Europe's most beautiful surroundings located between the ever blue sea and dusky mountains. This 150mile of rugged Atlantic washed coastline stretching from Sagres in the extreme west to the Spanish border has attracted millions of holiday makers drawn by its magical mediterranean-style atmosphere and beautiful climate.
The jewel in The Algarve's sporting crown is undoubtedly the 30 top class golf courses, many of which have hosted numerous European Tour professional events and even the World Cup of Golf in Vilamoura.
The Sotavento or eastern side beyond Faro towards Vila Real St Antonio on the Spanish border offers an off-the-beaten track Algarve, unhurried and uncrowded.
The Algarve has something to offer everyone, from the nightlife casinos and bars of the western Algarve's Vilamoura or Albufeira to the more traditional old-style Portugal of Tavira or Monchique.
